Photo tour led by Etienne Bossot

Starting in Hanoi, Vietnam's capital and itself situated in North, this 7 day tour will bring us to the most amazing terraced rice fields of Vietnam and the less explored areas of the northwest corner of the country. We spend some time in the area of Y Ty, which is very close to the Chinese border, then we head towards Mu Cang Chai with a stop over in Bac Ha to capture its amazing Sunday market.

This tour is very much landscape orientated but of course keeping a photographic angle on the people we are going to meet. As we are traveling there during the rice harvest time there will be plenty of people photos opportunities.

Of course you can bring your companion with you! With our local partners we have created a number of interesting and rewarding activities for them to fully enjoy the time too.

This is the wet season so it does rain from time to time. In the plains it is warm as always, but up high, as we will be, it is very cold at night, even close to freezing, so bring a mix of clothes.

Energetic but not mountain climbing. You do have to be in reasonable health, capable of one hour hikes up hills. Do bring good walking shoes.

Brief Itinerary

For Etienne, experience is key. When he takes people on tour, they not only travel and discover new things together but he engages them in their craft. All of those on Etienne’s tours become fully immersed in the landscape of their lens. Workshopping is continual and intimate with lots of one-on-one time. All of these elements help make his tours among the best in the world. Because it all comes down to passion.

Developing your photo skills is an absolute must on Etienne's tours. For every tour he selects relevant topic areas to workshop through and also design specific workshops for people while on tour. Most of the tour is aimed at developing composition and storytelling skills. We focus on different topics and apply them to daily situations. All tours include at least two photo critiquing sessions as well as workshops. This not only gives each person invaluable insight into their work but also enhances the group bonding experience. So you are guaranteed to go home a better photographer than before – plus you will have had an amazing travel experience!

We provide flights between tour  destinations, transfers, tour transport, accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner, light refreshments and soft drinks, museum passes and other related tickets. For indoor photography we have reflectors and light boxes. All fees quoted are inclusive of taxes.

Don't forget!

Other than your digital camera (any type will do) you should bring some lenses, a sturdy tripod and ideally a shutter release cable. There is a fair amount of walking, some in rough patches, so wear sensible shoes and casual clothes with lots of pockets. The sun can be strong; light headgear might be good for some.

If you do not have or do not want to bring a PC with you, we can arrange for you to use one locally. If you do not have imaging software on your computer, we can provide you with a free copy that has basic functionality. If you don’t bring a tripod we have some spares. If you are using a Canon DSLR then we also have some extra lenses.
